The works by Bach in this book are for clarinet with piano accompaniment.  There is a separate clarinet part. While this music was original transcribed for English Horn by Julie Ann Giacobassi, the English Horn player in the San Francisco Symphony, it is also suitable for oboe, clarinet and saxophone. Julie reports, "All the guys in the clarinet section here (Dave Breeden, Luis Baez and Don Carroll) are using it personally and with their students." It is also recommended by Clark Fobes.

This book contains the first five of Bach's Six Suites for Solo Cello, among the greatest music ever written for a solo instrument. While this book is well printed and easy to read, there are some pasted-in corrections. Suggested for bass clarinetists who wish to work on bass clef. Many of the pieces are playable with a low e-flat instrument and virtually all with a low c bass clarinet.
