Dedicated to Paquito D'Rivera, this piece is a fusion of jazz and classical elements in four movements: Allegro Moderato, Lento, Allegretto, and Allegro con Fuoco. There are improvised sections in the first and last movement with suggested solos provided on separate sheets. The CD has the complete work performed by the composer and a piano only version for play along. PA051: Bel Canto for Alto Saxophone and Piano Accompaniment arranged by Robert van Beringen. De Haske, 2006, SS, 53 + 25 pages + CD. This book contains a collection of melodic studies that were originally composed for the singing voice by Giuseppe Concone, Mathilde Marchesi and Francesco Tosti (brief biographies are included). As there are many similarities in the techniques of singers and wind players, they are also ideally suited to playing on the saxophone. In particular phrasing, breathing and dynamics are dealt with extensively in these tuneful pieces. This book has 20 pieces at the intermediate and upper intermediate level. The CD includes well-known saxophonist Nobuya Sugawa demonstrating the pieces. Many of the accompanying tracks on the CD have been recorded at multiple tempos. |
